Mishka Adams surprises Awit Awards

IN THE RECENT CONCLUDED AWIT AWARDS, an unknown talent bested more recognized artists in the new female category.  The surprise winner for the night was Mishka Adams, the 20-year old jazz singer that POPSICLE featured on Issue #43.

Mishka won over the fan favorite like Kitchie Nadal, Rachelle Ann Go, Frenchie Dy, and Marinel Santos for the Best Performance By A New Female Recording Artist award.  The beautiful jazz singer, however, failed to make the awards night because she was in London performing at the prestigious Pizza Express Jazz Club.

The Candid Records artist held a sold-out concert in one of the most respected jazz clubs in the world.  Artists like Norah Jones and Dianna Krall performed at The Express Jazz Club early in their careers.  According to Candid Records’ Allan Fajardo, Mishka is the first Filipino to perform there.

Upon coming home, Mishka was already hounded with rumors, particularly regarding her citizenship.  The young singer proudly claimed in Tagalog that she is a Filipino.  In fact, the birth certificate of Mishka was circulating in the venue of the press conference, in case someone needed a hard copy.

“I’m shocked,” claimed Mishka when asked about her reaction to winning the award.  “(I’m also) very thankful to shed some light on that jazz scene in Manila.  So, (winning the award is) not only my success, but of my fellow jazz artists as well,” she added.

Mishka’s success continues as Candid Records will release her album in London this October, where the Awit Awards recipient will once again perform at The Pizza Express Jazz Club. Also the independent international jazz label, released a special edition of Mishka’s debut album God Bless the Child.  The special edition contains four new tracks and the music video of the title track.
