Lucky 7 winners honored
September 24, 2007The search for the best drawing depciting the Seven Fundamental principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement ended on September 7 with the presentation of cash prizes plus plaques to the winners of the 'Lucky 7' drawing contest at PNRC headquarters in Manila.
Their illustrations will certainly give visual effect to a leaflet about the movements principles to be printed locally as part of the apckage of dissemination materials for the World Campaign for the Protection of war Victims.
The 'Lucky 7' idea was braoched by Mrs. E. Capina of Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) before the ICRC-PNRC Dissemination Task force of which DECS is a member agency. She also wrote the Pilipino translation of the principles and suggested that 7UP (Pepsi-Cola) be atpped as sponsor of the cash prizes.
A multi-awarded editorial columnist of the Manila Bulletin, Norman Isaac, who is also President of the Cartoonist Association of the Philippines and one of teh foreign editors of Witty world, an international cartoon magazine, was one of the winners. His entry symbolizes the humanity of teh Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in realtion to the blood program.
Other winners were Joel Estevez for 'Impariality' (about disaster preparedness and relief); Jorge Canay for 'Neutrality' (safety services); Almer Axalan for 'Independence' (Nursing Services); Allan John Fajardo for 'Voluntary Services' (Red Cross Youth); Manuel Bastillo for 'Unity' (Social Services) and Romeo De Leon for 'Universality' (Tracing and Mailing Services).
Individually they received a cash prize of P7,000 and an accompanying plaque of recognition. The prizes were presented by PNRC Gov. Roilo Golez, public relations committee chairman; and Mrs. Gloria Balbin senador, PNRC secretary general.
More than 1,500 entries were submitted. The judges were Mrs. E. Capina and Mrs. A. Palu-ay, both of DECS and Eddie H. Angco of PNRC.
The cash prizes of P49,000 came from Pespi-Cola and Paul Fruh of the ICRC.

Fajardo is National Finalist
Allan Fajardo, V-I pupil of Trinidad Tecson Elementary School is a finalist in the naionwide 'Guhit Bulilit' drawing contest sponsored by Coca Cola Bottling Company in conncetion with its theme 'Building a Nation Through Values Formation'.
His drawing was ent to the company's office last august 31, 1989 for judging.
Among thousands of entries sent by participating public elementary schools, his work was chosen on of the thirteen finalists.
Fajardo and the other finalists re-created ther work before the Board of Judges to ensure that they are the authors of their entry last September 13 at the main office of the company in Makati.
Major awards will be given to the three winners on September 16. This was gathered from Mr. danilo Marcelo, special arts teacher of the school and his trainor.
